Theme: The Call to Return to Fellowship in the Last Days
Dear Beloved in Christ,
As we navigate these challenging times, it is imperative that we understand the significance of returning to church attendance and fellowship with our fellow believers. The world can often feel isolating, but God calls us to congregate, to share, and to support one another as we live out our faith. In these last days, the need for community is more urgent than ever. As I was finishing out my morning prayer and Bible study this morning the Lord offered me the opportunity to share these thoughts with you today. Thoughts that will strengthen our relationship and strengthen our friendship with each other and the Lord. May these thoughts be of help to you and your families today.
The Importance of Fellowship:
Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (NIV). This scripture illustrates that fellowship is not merely a suggestion; it is a vital part of our spiritual growth and discernment. When we gather, we can minister to one another, share our burdens, and celebrate our victories in Christ.
The Danger of Isolation:
Satan thrives in isolation. When we distance ourselves from the church, we become vulnerable. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 states, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them.” (NIV). Alone, we are more susceptible to temptation and doubt. Together, we can lift each other up and strengthen our faith.
Biblical Examples of Returning to Fellowship:
1. Peter: After denying Christ three times, Peter experienced a profound sense of failure. Yet, in John 21:15-17, Jesus restored him by asking, “Do you love me?” three times, giving Peter a clear pathway back into fellowship and purpose. Jesus didn’t just forgive Peter; He reinstated him as a leader among the disciples.
2. The Prodigal Son: In Luke 15:11-32, we see the prodigal son who strayed far from his father. After squandering his inheritance, he found himself in a desperate situation. Realizing he was lost, he returned home, and his father welcomed him with open arms and a feast. This beautiful parable illustrates that no matter how far we stray, God is always ready to embrace us upon our return.
3. Jonah: Jonah initially ran from God's call to preach to Nineveh, choosing instead to go in the opposite direction (Jonah 1:1-3). After a tumultuous journey that included being swallowed by a great fish, Jonah repented and returned to fulfill God’s purpose. His story reminds us that God is patient and provides a pathway back to our calling, even after we stray.
4. Thomas: Known as “Doubting Thomas,” he missed out on the initial resurrection appearance of Jesus (John 20:24-25). When he finally returned to fellowship with the other disciples, he encountered the risen Christ. Jesus reassured Thomas, saying, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29, NIV). This story emphasizes the importance of being part of the community, where we can witness and experience God's work together.
Spiritual Authority and Commitment:As we reflect on our commitment to fellowship, let’s remember that each one of us has a unique role in the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). You are vital to the health and growth of the church. When you are present, you contribute to the collective strength of our community. Your gifts, insights, and experiences enrich us all.
The Call to Unity:Unity is essential in the Body of Christ. Ephesians 4:3 encourages us to “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” (NIV). When we isolate ourselves, we weaken the church’s collective voice and impact. We are called to be active participants in the body, working together to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.
The Path Forward:Let us move beyond any judgments we may have about the church and recognize that we are all spiritual works in progress. God is actively at work in our lives, shaping us into His image. As we gather, we share in His grace and help one another grow.
### PrayerHeavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of the Church and the community of believers. Help us to recognize the importance of fellowship and the strength we gain from one another. Forgive us for the times we have isolated ourselves and for any judgments we have made against Your body. May we return with open hearts, eager to encourage and uplift one another. Lead us back to the fold, where we can experience Your grace and mercy together. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
